Day 3

For this session, we had two classes. Firstly, we had a recap of what we have taught on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, as well as Microsoft Powerpoint. The students that we attended are Year 3 and 4 students as they are still not proficient to them. Furthermore, we also provided typing training to aid them in the future. Each students were given a chance on testing their typing speed. As they are still inexperienced, we taught them how to type efficiently. For example, teaching them finger positioning to avoid typing with fingers one by one. We also had a small competition on deciding who typed the fastest. A small reward is given to them for those who typed the fastest. Then we had another classes where it consisted of Year 3 and 4 students. For this period, we held a mini game for them. The students are then separated into groups. Our main objective for the mini game is to determine which group built the tallest tower with the use of limited amount of pasta, gummy candy, and mask...

Day 2

On the second day, which was the 14th of May 2019, we were present at the Manna House Learning Centre again to conduct our teachings for the day. We started the day off by meeting the person in charge again, Ms Angelina. She then gave us the instructions for the tasks that needed to be carried out on that day. We were instructed to take charge of the year 4,5 and 6 students for the day. We started the day off by training them to type again, except this time there was the challenge of a friendly competition among all the years. Soon, came the lunch break and we headed out for lunch. After out lunch, we came back and started teaching them again. We came back to teach a combined class of year 4,5 and 6 students together in one class. More typing exercises were given to the students.

Day 1

On 13 May 2019, we went to Manna House Learning Centre located at Sunway Mentari. Before we proceed to teach the kids, we met the person in charge, Ms Angelina, in her office at 10am sharp. We were given the task of teaching year 3& year 6 kids in the morning. The year 3 kids have minimal knowledge so we start off with pretty basic stuff to teach them, such as introducing them what is Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel. As for year 6, they are fairly proficient with word, excel & power point, so we get them to do more exercises on all 3 programmes. We have also included some easy typing programmes for them, and taught them how to create documents, how to insert photos, how to edit the font size and much more. After a few hours of teaching, we went for a lunch break and then went back and teach the Year 4& Year 6 students. The Year 4 has also minimal proficiency, so we decided to teach them the same thing we taught the Year 3 kids in the morning. ...

Preparation and distributing task

On the second group meeting, We proceed with our planning by arranging and distributing tasks equally so that every groupmates can be on the same page. The tasks planned for each of the members can be as simple as transport to the venue and can also be as perplex as outlining ways to deliver our knowledge regarding basic computing. Nevertheless, every task is as important as one another so we had it planned in the most viable way. With that being said, we have gathered and brainstormed several methods that could allow them to learn basic computing skills captivatingly. Assuming that the more interesting the activity is, the more children will engage in that specific activity. We have planned to create a small contest on who can operate a computer better and faster at the end of every session. For instance, compete against each other who can type out an entire essay on Microsoft Word finger by finger in the fastest way possible with the least errors. We also plan to apply this to othe...

Group meeting 1

On the first group meeting, we first started off by acquainting ourselves with one another. This was a fun and critical activity as some of us are not from the same course and therefore needed to introduce ourselves as we wouldn't be able to carry out many of our activities if we didn't really know each other. After a round of introduction, we got on to discuss the logistics of our project. By this time, we had already reached out to a refugee center to offer our services and all that was needed to be done is to set the dates and activities that we will be carrying out with the refugee children of Manna House Learning Center, or MHLC for short. We realized that instead of doing the regular fellowship activities, we would opt to teach the children as it would have a lasting effect to each and every one of their lives. We reached out to the person in charge of the center and she was happy to oblige. She recommended that we cover IT topics as we informed her that our background is...
